Visioning 2019 and Beyond

Looking at the blog post title you may be asking yourself why I’m talking of 2019 as though it’s the start of the year. I know, we’re already in mid-year and 2020 is beckoning at us as the days fly by. However, with the year now half way through it’s the perfect time to do some retrospection even as we look ahead. This is what led me to read up on what some of the reputable thought leaders (Accenture, Deloitte and KPMG) are saying about 2019 and beyond as pertains technology trends.

What I gathered from each of these reports was the following:

  1. Firstly, the world is quickly moving from a digital age into the post digital world or what in some other quarters has been referred to as the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR)
  2. Secondly, the current Digital Transformation initiatives that many companies are in the midst of or are about to initiate are a very important foundational step change which will prepare them to easily adopt these new and emerging technologies.
  3. And thirdly the post digital world will be defined by adoption of these 4 technologies: Distributed Ledger Technology(DLT), Artificial Intelligence (AI). Extended Reality (XR) and Quantum Computing. This is what the Accenture Technology Vision 2019 team elegantly acronym as DARQ. I found the image below captures succinctly some of the capabilities that DARQ technologies will enable:
